Presidential candidate and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will no longer be coming through the Central Valley this week. His campaign reported this morning that he experienced chest discomfort during a campaign event in Nevada and has had heart stents inserted to address an artery blockage.
He was scheduled to hold town hall events at CSU Bakersfield and Fresno City College tomorrow, but those visits have been cancelled. Instead, the campaign is turning the events into "organizing barnstorms." According to an email from the campaign, these are opportunities for Sanders supporters to meet and get trained on how to work with the campaign.
Sanders' campaign has not said whether the visits will be rescheduled, but in an email to those who RSVP'd, said they will let supporters know when he returns to California.
This story has been updated to reflect that while Sanders is no longer visiting the Central Valley, the events have not been cancelled.
