Young Artists Spotlight 2019: Pianists Claire & April Park

Claire and April Park with FM89's David Aus

Today on Young Artists Spotlight, we hear music from two sisters from Bakersfield - twins Claire Soyoon Park and April Soyeong Park --  twin pianists from Bakersfield, both of them students of Bonnie Farrer, who provided the following biographies:

Claire Soyoon Park was born in Seoul, South Korea and started playing piano at the age of 5. She moved to Bakersfield in 2012 where she later started playing the violin in 4th grade. Over the years, Claire has participated in Strolling Strings, Kern County Honor Orchestra, CMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival, Bakersfield Youth Symphony, CASMEC All-State Symphony Orchestra, CODA All-State Honor Orchestra and Southern California Regional and Complete Works Junior Bach Festival. Currently, Claire is a freshman at Stockdale High School and she serves as co-concertmaster of the Bakersfield Youth Symphony that will travel to Wakayama, Japan in April. Aside from music, Claire participates in her school’s debate team and key club.

April Soyeong Park was born in Seoul, South Korea and started playing piano at the age of 5. She moved to Bakersfield in 2012 where she later started playing the viola in 4th grade. Over the years, April has participated in Strolling Strings, Kern County Honor Orchestra, CMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival, Bakersfield Youth Symphony, SCSBOA All-Southern Orchestra, CASMEC All-State Symphony Orchestra, CODA All-State Honor Orchestra and Southern California Regional and Complete Works Junior Bach Festival. Currently, April is a freshman at Stockdale High School and she serves as principal violist of the Bakersfield Youth Symphony that will travel to Wakayama, Japan in April. Aside from music, April participates in her school’s debate team and key club.   

David Aus is the host of Sunday Night Jazz and Young Artists Spotlight on KVPR, as well as other special programs featuring the valley's local musicians and artists. He is also a social media and marketing specialist for KVPR. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, David Aus has lived in Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco, before arriving in Fresno in 2002. Prior to joining KVPR, he spent many years as an on-air host at KFSR. When not on the air, David is a busy jazz pianist, composer, arranger and educator.
