A recent University of California San Francisco study showed that nearly 10% of unhoused survey participants in California had experienced domestic violence, and among unhoused cisgender women, that number about doubled.

Domestic violence and homelessness often intersect. In fact, it’s common for one to lead to the other. But in Fresno County, only one shelter exclusively serves people facing both.

In 2023, police and sheriff’s departments in the San Joaquin Valley fielded almost 31,000 calls related to domestic violence. More than 13,000 were in Fresno County alone.
