Valley Public Radio’s news department once again walked away with multiple awards at the 70th Annual Golden Mike Awards in Los Angeles. The annual awards gala honors the best in broadcasting in Southern California, and is produced by the Southern California Radio and Television News Association. The February 15th event at the Universal Hilton Hotel featured a keynote address by former Fox News host Shepard Smith.
Valley Public Radio won honors in four categories in division B, including Best Public Affairs program for Valley Edition and Best News Reporting.
Valley Public Radio’s News Director Alice Daniel says the recognition is well deserved by the station’s team of reporters. “We work hard every day to bring our listeners local coverage that helps contribute to their understanding of the valley. It’s an honor to see that work recognized from a panel of experts from outside the area, especially considering the great broadcast talent that exists in the Southern California region,” says Daniel. “I’d like to congratulate reporters Kerry Klein, Laura Tsutsui and Monica Velez, as well as our production and operations manager Don Weaver, for their contributions to these award winning entries.”
Valley Public Radio President and General Manager Joe Moore says it’s also recognition of the breadth and depth of the station’s coverage. “This year we won honors in a wide range of categories, from hard news reporting on things like public policy to human interest stories, to our public affairs show Valley Edition. Our entire staff is proud of the work they create every day, and especially of these much-deserved awards.”
