Clovis Rodeo Is At Capacity But Fresno Fairgrounds Can Take Evacuated Livestock

Goats settle into stalls at the Fresno Fairgrounds after being evacuated from the Creek Fire.

Fresno County officials announced Thursday that the Clovis Rodeo grounds are at capacity and the rodeo is no longer taking in evacuated livestock. The Fresno Fairgrounds, however, is gearing up to receive more cattle and horses in the next few days.

Stacy Rianda is the deputy manager at the Big Fresno Fair, but right now she’s in charge of feed donations and overseeing the barn set up. She said the facility is at 5% capacity, meaning they still have plenty of open stalls.

“We’ve been open since Monday to receive animals and they’ve been kind of trickling in but we hear there are more evacuations happening from the mountains,” she said. “So we could be receiving more animals any time.”

Right now about 50 goats and a few horses are housed at the fairgrounds. Lots of people have donated feed so Rianda has started redirecting some donations to other places accepting livestock including Fresno State and a ranch in Clovis.

“Now there's a need for feed for 400 horses that are out at Double S Ranch,” Rianda said.

Still, she’s cautious about doling out too much of their feed because she can’t predict how many livestock may soon be heading her way.
