State Senator Alex Padilla On Valley Edition

Office of Alex Padilla

Californians may soon need to give up one staple of the trip to the grocery store - the single use plastic grocery bag. Governor Brown has indicated that he will most likely sign a new bill on his desk that will effectively outlaw the bags.

The co-author of that bill, State Senator Alex Padilla (D-Los Angeles) joined us on Valley Edition this week. We talked about the law and other issues ranging from funding an earthquake early warning system to groundwater legislation. Padilla is also seeking to become California's next Secretary of State in the November election. We also talked about efforts to boost voter turnout and concerns about voting rights abuses.

Joe Moore is the President and General Manager of KVPR / Valley Public Radio. He has led the station through major programming changes, the launch of KVPR Classical and the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his leadership the station was named California Non-Profit of the Year by Senator Melissa Hurtado (2019), and won a National Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative reporting (2022).
