KVPR is one of six public radio stations nationwide chosen to partner this year with the personal history project StoryCorps on its One Small Step initiative. The idea is to bring together strangers with different political views to have personal conversations in an attempt to find common ground, or at least some shared humanity.
In this segment, Barbara and Helen come together for a virtual conversation and quickly discover they have much more in common than not - they both spent time in Colombia as missionaries, and were profoundly impacted by their experiences. Barbara extended her stay well beyond her one-year commitment, and Helen’s politics shifted to the left upon returning to the US. They start their conversation by introducing each other.
