Black mold, collapsing ceilings, and units without heat in the middle of the winter – those are just some of the horrible conditions at the dilapidated Summerset Village Apartmentslast year.
They caught the attention of the public, the media and local government, bringing new light to the issue of substandard rental housing in Fresno. But that description of unsafe and unhealthy living conditions doesn’t just apply to Summerset Village. Hundreds if not thousands of other rental units in Fresno have the same problems, owners that some people call Slumlords.
A new investigative reportin the Fresno Bee called “Living in Misery” examines the issue and looks for solutions. Reporters Barbara Anderson, BoNhia Leeand Andrea Castillo joined us on Valley Edition to talk about the project.
