Dr. Janine Nkosi is a sociology lecturer at Fresno State who received the university’s outstanding lecturer award. She uses community-based research and service-learning experiences to help students learn while giving back. She trains students to survey community members on key social issues, analyze data, and work with community organizations to implement change. With her students, she has investigated evictions and encouraged the passage of the Rental Housing Improvement Act in Fresno. Valley Edition host Kathleen Schock spoke with Dr. Nkosi about her approach to teaching.
