The Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla is one of 10 prisons in the state that gives incarcerated people the chance to connect to the natural world through the Insight Garden Program. Led by previously incarcerated individuals, the Insight Garden Program uses ecotherapy and mindfulness to help people in prison cultivate gardening skills and improve self-esteem. To learn more, Valley Edition host Kathleen Schock spoke with program volunteer Katerina Friesen and former inmate Michele Scott who lobbied to bring the program to Chowchilla.
