The Economist

Three years ago, The Economist published an article that chronicled the toll the great recession had taken on the people and the economy of the San Joaquin Valley, calling the region the Appalachia of the West. Last week, the UK-based publication published another set of articles about the region, detailing an economy that continues to struggle and the potential economic impact of the planned high speed rail system. Tom Nuttall, the U.S. West Coast Correspondent for The Economist joined us on Valley Edition to offer his international perspective on the issues facing the region.
