Ken Mettler Speaking to a group at California State University, Bakersfield.

Bakersfield’s Kevin McCarthy might be the second most powerful elected Republican in the nation, but that doesn’t mean he’s getting through the 2016 election cycle without a primary challenge from within his own party.

And while the House Majority Leader is by most accounts wildly popular in his district, our next guest Ken Mettler says McCarthy is too liberal, and has quote “no core set of principles.” He’s challenging McCarthy on the June ballot. He joined us on Valley Edition to talk about his effort to unseat the Bakersfield Republican, much like former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was ousted by a Tea Party challenger in 2014.
