Planning To "Opt Outside"? Here Are A Few Ideas From Fresno State's Geology Club

Edwin Rivas, a geology student at Fresno State, is planning to spend Black Friday at Pinnacles National Park. He says it's not necessary to go far to enjoy the outdoors, though.

While this week is very focused on Thanksgiving, let’s stop for a moment to talk about the day that follows: Black Friday. Many use the day to get a start on holiday shopping, but some stores have boycotted the event. REI, an outdoor equipment store, started the hashtag “Opt Outside” to encourage people to spend the day outdoors instead.

We wanted to find out what residents in the Valley might be doing in the spirit of “opting outside.” So we spoke with Edwin Rivas, a geology student at Fresno State, and co-president of the Geology Club. He and some of the club members will spend the day at Pinnacles National Park.

Listen to the interview above to hear Rivas talk about what he’s looking forward to with the trip, and his recommendations for getting outside closer to home.
