The United States was founded as an escape from British tyranny, but today political leaders on both sides of the aisle are being accused of dangerous overreaches of power. Which begs the question of how susceptible America really is to falling under tyrannical rule. Fresno State philosophy professor Andrew Fiala explores that topic in his new book, “Tyranny from Plato to Trump: Fools, Sycophants and Citizens.” He spoke to Valley Edition host Kathleen Schock about what history can teach us about today’s political environment.

Kathleen Schock is the host of Valley Edition. In the show, Kathleen and the Valley Public Radio news team explore issues that matter to the residents of Central California through engaging conversations and in-depth reporting.
