Emily Lee, Kyle Moua, Idea Yang, Aerith Vue, Evelyn Yang and Isabelle Vue (left to right) were all part of a discussion on why the Hmong New Year matters. .

Students at Terronez Middle School joined us for a conversation about the Hmong New Year celebration taking place at their school Friday, Dec. 6 from 5 - 7:30 p.m. The event includes dancing, singing, games and lots of food. Students told us the New Year reminds them about the importance of traditional dress, music and language in the Hmong culture and it gives the close-knit community a chance to rally after the horrific mass shooting that took the lives of four people and injured six others on Nov. 17.
