Bakersfield College’s Theater Program announces their annual summer musical, a traditional collaboration with the Choral and Instrumental Music programs, returning for the first time since 2019. This year's presentation will be the beloved Broadway musical Seussical™, written by famed musical theatre duo Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, based on the works of Dr. Seuss. The family-friendly show will play in the Edward Simonsen Indoor Theatre on the Bakersfield College campus Friday, July 15 - Saturday, July 23.
A favorite of the college market, Connor McSpadden has performed at schools nationwide and showcased for NACA. On the festival circuit has been featured in the World Series of Comedy and RiOT LA. He performs regularly at the World Famous Improvs and as a “House Hater” on the Roast Battle at the Comedy Store, and co-hosts the politically incorrect scripted podcast Mean Boys. As a commentator he has been seen on WeTV and his standup has been featured on Hulu and the show Laughs on Fox.

Madera Theatre Project presents 'Harvest Moon' by Jose Cruz Gonzalez and directed by Elena Navarrette. This dramatic play tells the story of a dying artist, who paints a mural for her son, which chronicles four generations of a Mexican-American farmworker family and their struggle for life. It is a show that celebrates life, arts and family. Please note: This play contains mature themes and language, including the use of alcohol and marijuana.

This year, United Way of Kern County's 31st Annual Professional Development Conference is all about embracing change, breakthrough innovation and creativity, and reengagement. This conference is for community-based organizations, businesses, elected city officials, and individuals who want to make a positive impact where they live. The conference will consist of multiple workshops on topics that provide tools and resources in leading change in Kern County and beyond.

Bakersfield College’s Golden Empire Drum & Bugle Corps, an ensemble within the Performing Arts department, announced today the details of the 6th annual (and first since 2019) presentation of RESOUND, a drum and bugle competition bringing together some of the country’s best corps, presented by Drum Corps International. The event will take place July 22 at 7 PM inside Bakersfield College’s Memorial Stadium and is open to the public. Tickets are available now and begin at $10 (children 5 years of age and under will be admitted free of charge).

Brother Yusef is a self-taught musician and has been described as a master solo guitarist and a uniquely passionate vocalist. His performances are raw, honest, and as real as the genre has ever aspired to be. Honed over thirty years, he calls his multifaceted style Fattback Blues for it's a rich mix of Delta, Chicago, and Texas blues alongside a hard-driving Louisiana stomp. Fattback Blues combines "traditional" fingerpicking and slide guitar playing with the contemporary feel of urban blues, rock, and funk.
