This event is a guided birding tour with Rachel Clark of Central California Birding Tours, along the gorgeous Manzanita Lake Trail in North Fork. Many colorful birds have just arrived from their wintering grounds, and there is no better time to see them.
Join the Central Labor Council and the Central Valley Partnership in a habitat restoration project at the River West future access site of the San Joaquin River. This service project is for all ages and will feature educational talks about the river wildlife and ecology. Bring your family and help give new life to this amazing local resource.

Peter Balakian will read and discuss his poetry and prose with a focus on Armenian historical and cultural memory and disaporan imagination. In his many books of poems and his memoir Black Dog of Fate, Balakian has explored-in his distinct poetic form and elliptical language-traumatic intergenerational memory of the Armenian Genocide, as well as the power and beauty of Armenian culture.

Learn about the forced incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II from the direct experience of Marion Masada, a survivor of America’s concentration camps. Marion will share stories of the trauma she endured as a pre-teen and teenager while imprisoned, as well as her family’s struggles to survive amidst rampant racism and discrimination in the years following their release. Judge Dale Ikeda, whose parents were incarcerated, will discuss the history and legacy of the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans. A reception sponsored by the San Joaquin Valley Media Alliance will immediately follow the panel in the new Social Justice Center, OAB 139.
