In December a new play will take the stage at Fresno City College and it has a special connection to the community – it’s a musical by Fresno City College alumnus and acclaimed author Gary Soto. He joins Valley Edition Host Joe Moore for or a conversation about the play.

"In and Out of Shadows" is about the lives and experiences of a group of undocumented teenagers from Richmond and Pinole, California. The play is in a format loosely based on the Canterbury Tales, members of San Francisco Youth Theatre’s professional ensemble not only perform the play, but also gathered the oral histories from around the Bay Area on which it is based, and which Soto has transformed into this musical theater production.

The show will be performed at Soto’s alma mater, Fresno City College in Fresno December 6-7. For tickets call: (559) 443-8688 or go to www.fresnocitycollege.edu/garysoto.
