New Poll Shows Brown's Tax Measure Still Ahead of Rival

California Governor Jerry Brown’s November tax initiative has dropped a couple of points in new Public Policy Institute of California and Field Polls out this morning.

State Capitol reporter Ben Adler says Proposition 30 still has majority support – and it’s still ahead of a rival measure, Proposition 38.

“Both polls came back with pretty similar results for Proposition 30, the governor’s sales and income tax initiative. PPIC has it up 52 to 40 percent and Field has it winning by 51 to 36 percent. Little bit different on Proposition 38, Molly Munger’s education tax measure. It’s tied in PPIC at 45 percent; trailing in the Field Poll by three points, 44 to 41 percent.”

Meanwhile, a third tax measure, Prop 39, has a six-point lead in the Field Poll. That initiative would end a tax break that benefits out-of-state businesses.

And the PPIC shows another closely-watched measure, Prop 32, trailing by seven points. That’s the one that would ban corporate and union campaign contributions.
