In 1975 White Ash Broadcasting, Inc. was founded the specific purpose of operating the station FM89.3, KVPR, Fresno and was a non-profit community broadcast license by the FCC. The station went on air in October of 1978 broadcasting a few hours each day with volunteer. In the early eighties FM89's signal was extended to include parts of northern and southern central valley. In 1987, a full power transmitter was installed and began simulcast service to Kern County on FM89.1, KPRX. From that forward, Valley Public Radio has nurtured its mission and continued to be leader in quality programming for the central valley.
Our partnership with National Public Radio also spans a 20-year history. For, All Things Considered has been heard at the same time every day by listeners since 1978!
located in downtown Fresno, our production studios and administrative are now located at 3437 W. Shaw Avenue. Since these early days, our studios, programming and partnerships have grown.
Over the years the number of listeners has also increased. Every year more residents begin their day with Morning Edition. FM89 is known for other programs including The California Report, The Thomas Jefferson , Performance Today, and Thistle & Shamrock.
local production efforts have also garnered significant audiences with like Valley Writers Read, The Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts, FM89 Young Artists Spotlight and Jazz at Home, to name a . In fact, FM89 broadcasts over 3,500 hours of locally produced programming year!

Valley Public Radio extends its reach throughout the San Joaquin valley. Through partnerships with community organizations, we help provide awareness the opportunities for cultural enrichment and community involvement right at home.
In addition, The FM89 Arts Calendar is a daily broadcast community arts which informs listeners about the myriad of cultural arts events, exhibits, lectures and presentations happening in the valley. During this past year, well over 3,000 such messages were read featuring 375 Cultural arts agencies.
It is no wonder that so many listeners have come to rely on and expect FM89's programming to be one of content, quality and interest every time they turn on their radio.
