About KVPR

Valley Public Radio is a leading provider of news, music and entertainment content for California's San Joaquin Valley, and operates two stations: KVPR, which features news/talk programming with NPR favorites like Morning Edition, 1A, and All Things Considered; and KVPR Classical, which broadcasts classical music 24/7. Valley Public Radio serves the residents of Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, Mariposa and Tulare counties. KVPR broadcasts on FM 89.3 (Fresno) and FM 89.1 (Bakersfield), and KVPR Classical can be heard on HD Radio on FM 89.3 HD-2 in Fresno and FM 89.1 HD-2 in Bakersfield. Both stations also stream online at KVPR.org, on the KVPR App, and on smart speakers and other connected devices. A KVPR broadcast coverage map is available here.

Valley Public Radio was founded in 1975, and KVPR began broadcasting in 1978. KVPR is a community licensee, and is operated by White Ash Broadcasting. Valley Public Radio is a NPR member station. In addition to content from NPR, the BBC and American Public Media, KVPR also produces its own local news content and podcasts, winning multiple Golden Mike and Regional Edward. R. Murrow Awards. KVPR operates from a state-of-the-art 10,000 square foot broadcast center in Clovis, CA, which opened in 2016.

STATION PROGRAMMING

News & Talk:
KVPR is the San Joaquin Valley's NPR station, featuring in-depth news and talk programs, including NPR's Morning Edition and  All Things Considered. The station also produces award-winning local news coverage that airs within these national shows. Other news/talk programs include 1A, Science Friday, BBC Newshour, Latino USA, and NPR's Here and Now. KVPR goes beyond the headlines to bring you a diverse array of weekly programs, from thought provoking talks from the TED Radio Hour or true stories told live on The Moth Radio Hour, or the humor of Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me. Learn about the intersection of culture, people and food on The Splendid Table, hear deep explorations of fascinating stories on This American Life, and investigative reports on Reveal.

Classical Music:
KVPR Classical is Valley Public Radio's 24/7 classical music station, broadcasting on HD-2 in both the Fresno and Bakersfield areas, streaming worldwide on KVPR.org, the KVPR App, smart speakers, and connected devices. KVPR Classical features the talented hosts of Classical 24, as well as special programs like Sunday Baroque. In addition to KVPR Classical, our main KVPR signal also features evening classical programming, including broadcasts of the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The station also airs special broadcasts from local orchestras and ensembles. Jazz can also be heard on KVPR, with local programs such as Sunday Night Jazz with David Aus. The station also broadcasts a series showcasing talented local student musicians every spring known as Young Artists Spotlight.

STATION FUNDING
KVPR's programming is made possible thanks to generous support of our community. Over 90 percent of the station's $2.4 million annual operating budget comes from membership donations, foundation partners, local business sponsors and station events. Less than 10 percent of the station's budget comes from the government, in the form of a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The station's annual wine tasting (typically held the first Sunday in May) and $10,000 Drawing raffle are also significant sources of revenue. The station also has planned giving programs designed specifically for individuals who wish to support the mission of public radio through a legacy gift, estate planning, or gifts of stock or real estate. Our vehicle donation program also makes it easy for listeners to support the station by donating a used car.
